ok, i searched this thread and didn't find anything on this, though i could have sworn i read of others having similar issues before while keeping up on the thread. anyways, my youtube won't work. it will load and search, but when i try to load a video, it says "There was a problem while playing Touch to retry". i've tried multiple times, over multiple wifi's and over the normal data network, it always says the same thing. i decided to uninstall youtube and try reinstalling it from the market, but the market says that your device is not compatible with this item. i was able to get it from mobilism and reinstall it, but i'm still having the same issue. should i try reinstalling the rom? and if so could i do it without wiping the data or would i have to wipe the data in order for it to hopefully work? its worked through opera for a minute, then started giving me the same issue as the app

Use Youtube 4.5.17...

...my youtube won't work. it will load and search, but when i try to load a video, it says "There was a problem while playing Touch to retry"...
A few weeks ago, I found both my Atrix (latest MROM) and my wife's (latest stock 4.5.145) had this issue. To make a boring story short(er), I found that this started with v5.1.10, so I found a download at androidpolice.com for 5.0.21 (using appbrain.com to find the release versions) and it worked.

However, after I did this, I found the battery life on my Atrix had severely deteriorated. I tried a reboot to no avail, and waited to see if a Youtube update might fix the original problem (using the wife's phone to test). After a couple days, I noted that the CPU would normally run at 912MHz or 1GHz and occasionally drop lower. So then I removed Youtube...and voila...CPU was then running at 216 or 312MHz, and rarely jumping higher.

In the meantime, I had found a couple alternatives for the latest v4.5.17:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340691
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398322

The first one has a modified name, so it could be installed alongside Youtube to prevent update-nagging (and to see if a future update fixes this). So I installed it, and all is well; battery life is good and CPU throttling works properly.

Hi, what ROM do you use? Actually I found the same issue on TopSmart's 2.3.7 ROM which is CM9 based and with the recent youtube updates after like Christmas youtube had the same issue like yours. (sorry, I'm not aware of youtube versions). Recently I installed epinter's CM10.1 ROM with android 4.2.2 and there is no such issue.

I beg to differ, Youtube didn't have problems at all on GB 2.3.4 of my SK17i (Adreno 205), it's Motorola's firm problem with the outdated codecs and drivers for the TEGRA ARMv7.
I today installed ICSROM 1.4.6, and the latest Youtube (5.7.41) now works. Not that I've tried any recent versions in some time, but hopefully this helps for anyone searching for info on this...

On ICS the latest youtube works, but on GB doesn't.
Right; GB needs Youtube v4 to avoid issues (see post #2). I was just pointing out that its not a Motorola/Tegra2 issue perse, but a Motorola's* GB Tegra2 drivers issue. I was surprised that it worked, actually. :)

* - Out of curiousity, does anybody know if other Tegra2 devices (Moto or other) running GB have this Youtube issue? I seem to recall they did...
