It's a good idea to do a fresh nandroid backup. Also, make a copy of the original build.prop file just in case.
While true for 99% of cases this isn't one of them as its a very simple edit back...I don't know of any downsides other than your phone believing you are on 4.4.2 so your about phone will show version number 4.4.2 instead of 4.4.4. However your phone will still be running 4.4.4.

Yes, this is a simple mod. The reason is in case you fat finger some other edit that screws up something else. There are plenty of other things that can be done in there and you will be sorry you don't have the original sometime.

Change: ro.build.version.release=4.4.4

to: ro.build.version.release=4.4.2

...in your build.prop file. Not sure how it works, but it does...also fixed 1080p Netflix streaming for me. I found this work around in another thread. Can't find it now.
I can't seem to see what the streaming quality is inside the netflix app:confused:

So if o wanted 1080p youtube using viral player i need this edit?
My edit makes viral player unnecessary because it fixes 1080p in the YouTube app.

If you are on a seven inch or above tablet you should be able to tell just by watching. If you are on a phone it probably isn't worth it. It will adjust to 1080p with a good connection.

Use an app like root explorer and edit your build.prop from ro.build.version.release=4.4.4 to ro.build.version.release=4.4.2

That should give you the 1080p option. For some reason YouTube doesn't like 1080p on 4.4.4.

Anyway I just flashed 8.6.1 and slim full gapps and I have the 1080p option already. In the past though I just edited my build prop.

Just realized I was beaten to the punch.
