I am on Bruce's CMX, previously on hyper nonsense, and used Yank's hardswap with both. It is like zRam, but to your sd card instead of internal. I use it for multitasking.

so after always using zram for the longest time i finally tried it without it. didnt feel like i was missing out on too much. then went back to zram and i can actually feel a difference. more ram and faster app launch. guess i always took it for granted after using it for like almost forever. never felt an impact on battery life during the switch away and back to zram. no wonder kernel devs all use it, they know their sht

Hi guys, how to use zram? I must create a second partition (like ext3 or ext4) on sd card for swap file? or not?
sorry for my bad english.
Some ROMs and Kernels (like ViperS and the Yank-mod Faux kernel) have the option to install it, it doesn't require another partition (someone correct me if I'm spouting false info) but as someone else said in this thread it uses a portion of your device's existing RAM and compresses it to make better use for multitasking. On other ROMs, like Bruce's CM10, ZRAM can be enabled just by changing a value in a script at /system/etc/init.d. The Hardswap mod by Yank does use a partition on your SD card just like a regular Linux machine.

I started using ZRAM months ago only because I read countless posts on here advocating it. I did notice my phone got snappier overall, but I haven't tested without to see if it has any impact on battery life.

Does anyone have a comparison for performance/battery between ZRAM, hardswap and stock?

I use it, i don't mind wasting a few CPU cycles to increase RAM "size", especially since i use a ROM that was made for 1GB phone.
I haven't tried with it off, so don't know what the performance/battery impact is.
