on a PC, sure..Zram compresses memory in order to fit more. It had impact on performance and battery life. It's a necessity like it was already mentioned for users that do heavy multi taking.

Well, just like using a swap file / partition I believe it's usually useless for almost every user. There are rare exceptions which rely on heavy multi tasking. Honestly I do multitasking but never found a reason to use it, it usually impacts overall performance in a noticeable way, so I agreeon a PC, sure..
on a phone? i, and most others, believe it is useless.
+1I fully agree, on a PC it makes sense, but on a battery charged phone - saves memory, but spends power for this, and is hardly a plus.
1)noHi,
1) do stock Roms usually have them turned on?
2) how to disable it on cm10?
For QN 2:1)no
2)go to init.d folder and delete 90zram file
my mistakeFor QN 2:
Is it always written as "90zram" or something with"zram"? I ask this because the cm10 nightly version that I'm on stated that zram is on by default. However when I go to the directory that you have mentioned, there is no file "90zram" but only "00banner" and "90userinit"?
Don't you have settings > performance > memory blah blah > zRam in CM rom? It should be there, you tap on it and select what you want, disable or one of the other options...For QN 2:
