I enabled ZRAM for the first time this morning by following a script I found in one of the threads on this forum. First, SWAP was set at 50MB. Increased it to 64MB and then to 128MB. At 128MB the phone lagged like hell, Returned to 64MB and smoothness returned. In fact I don't see much difference between ZRAM enabled/disabled, no matter at what size SWAP is set. But the larger the SWAP size the laggier the phone becomes. So I think I'll disable it.

I have seen the benefits of Z-RAM, but cons are overweighting the pros and that is shorter battery life. With Z-RAM on I have all my apps loaded into memory, Phone or messaging just pop out instantaneously even after running ME Infiltrator for example, while without Z-RAM Rosie needs a while to come around when I exit the game.

I don't use it, it slows my phone down.

When i began to use it, i noticed my phone being a little faster with app launchs, till i restored all of my backups, i sometimes use around 25 different apps in a day, after launching all that apps and closing them (with back button and task manager) i noticed i had 50 MB of free memory (which is around 150 usually), when i checked amount of memory being used, it was just 69 MB, my total RAM is 289 MB, i get up to 170 MB free RAM without zRAM and seems like it slows my phone down if i don't restart regularly. So i just switched it off, it also slows app loads and it was supposed to make em load faster, so simply don't use it if you got a lot off apps, but if your using a few apps and want to make em load faster, go on and use it.

Change your memory minfree values guys, that helps more than zRAM or swap, for swap, i don't want to screw my 16 gb sd card, as im already using it with link2sd, using swap would totally fck it up

Also with zRAM, even animations (which are stored in my RAM already) were slow like hell, turning it off brought my phone back to life.

About battery life, with around 2 - 4 hours of phone usage daily, my battery used to run out of juice in 3 - 4 days, but with Zram its 1 - 2 days with same amount of usage.

so.. do you use z-ram? does it help anything? notice differences? just wondering what the general consensus on z-ram is.

option 1: you use it and you notice that it helps with performance
option 2: you use it only for the sole purpose that it is available to you but you dont notice anything different
option 3: you dont use it because you dont see any benefits from using it or it causes problems (i.e. battery drain)
option 4: you dont use it because you dont believe it will help or dont trust it or just want to stick to simplicity

hmm.. i guess option 3 and 4 are essentially the same lol
I used it for quite a while, but must say since changing to a kernel that does not use zRam I've noticed an increase in performance!

ZRAM has a portion of compressed swap in physical memory, like with any data that is compressed, the CPU needs to decode that compressed information. Hence why some people may notice UI lags and general less than desiable snappiness within the ROM

I reckon android has a brilliant memory manager for low memory devices, it will save the apps "state" and reopen the app if it has been killed from memory. It does this in a decent amount of time.

I don't.
But zram helped me to change battery: I just started using it and noticed that my battery is discharged :D.
... maybe in future
