What are you talking about, I am in Switzerland with UK firmware and LTE (4G) works fine.

Same in Germany. Unless the phone is cheating by just randomly displaying LTE, H, 3G, E, ...
Check your access point configuration and make sure you set LTE, not just GSM
And of course your contract should allow LTE, as well as it helps having LTE coverage

LTE works in Sweden as well.as awful as this sounds I wish I had a windows laptop right now. I always have problems with adb/fastboot in Linux and osx.

Not sure if there is an easy method to convert ftf to flashable zip but have you seen this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849867

How you manage to get Z1f? I am sure you could change the language to English then you can proceed with Rooting Method in XDA. You just need to find the setting and change the language to English. (Try and error method)

I can't help as I can't read Japanese but I am sure there are others who used Z1f as well in this forum who could help.

Here is Docomo Z1f Manual. You will need to translate the manual to find what you looking for.

I followed this nice guide but in step 3 he backs up some files in order not to void warranty! That's why I asked! Why would he do that? Does it have to do with unlocking bootloader?

Don't now why he does it but so far as I know, warranty will only break if you unlock the bootloader...so if your bootloader is still locked, you'll be fine. There is a way to avoid this as shown in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642081
