and other tips for battery drain ? Offing wifi is not practical for me. However i've turned off all the necessary wifi scanning and etc, facebook notifications and most unnecessary background apps. still having huge drain.

I just wanted to join this thread to see if anyone has found anything that has worked... i am so close to ebaying this phone - the battery combined with awful bluetooth stutter are just annoying the hell out of me...

I'm not prepared to turn off background data to all apps as I need it for most (and the ones i dont i have disabled with no discernible difference)

So i don't really know where to go.

I've been away the past week and had no phone signal, so went on airplane mode bar wifi, and it was significantly better, but some days it still was at <10% after 12 hours, with next to no usage...

Posting this here in case anyone can help. First day back at work after my holiday and I thought I'd test battery usage on the way in. Unplugged my phone at 7.30am and got to office at 8.50am. As of now I'm on 62%
All I have done on the commute is read gReader, prob for 35-45 mins.
This does not seem reasonable battery usage...

So that's telling me my battery usage is predicted to last til 11am...

Just been in the US and had mobile data off... everything else as normal. Battery life was substantially better (was using screen just as much)... so something to do with mobile data is draining

Hi, this is my first contribution to the forum. I'm having similar issues with the Z5, and have also noticed a link between fast battery drainage and mobile data (as well as wifi and reception).

At my place, the phone struggles to find reception, and battery drains much faster than it should. Disabling mobile data appears to help, but WiFi also takes quite a toll on the battery unless I'm in the same room as the router: 10' sending and receiving pics via whatsapp (screen brightness at about 40%) drained a good 10% of my battery. Outdoors, in places with better coverage, it does better, but the screen still seems to be taking quite the toll on the battery.

My old Z1's battery life was phenomenal compared to this one (literally two days on stamina mode). Still have a week left to return the Z5 and am seriously considering doing so...What a shame ...

So I've just been examining my battery with gsam and I'm getting 28℅ drain with screen off and 24% screen on... All show under screen as 55%... Why am I getting battery drain from screen when it's off??

In case you guys haven't noticed, the persistent battery drain issue has been "fixed" since a few days

An update to tobias.waldvogel's repacker with the DRM emulation (bigger part) and improvements in Sony's ROM (smaller part ?) helped,

that e.g. I got a "drain" of 0% in 9 hours in Airplane mode (also using Greenify, Naptime with Aggressive Doze and disabled Motion Detection)

Any repackaged Stock Kernel by rootkernel v5.0 (beta8+, rc*) or custom Kernel that contains an up-to-date modified ramdisk should offer that drastically improved battery runtime

http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=67743629&postcount=187 224_I.1_2_10 of SunKernel, http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=67684222&postcount=172 224_I.1_2_8 of SunKernel does as well

So, erm, excuse the n00b question, but is this 'fix' likely to come ota or is it a hack?

EVERY custom kernel, rooted kernel, etc.

requires an UNLOCKED bootloader,

so you need to flash it via TWRP (Recovery),

or e.g. via fastboot

Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

So if the draining behavior persists for phones with LOCKED bootloaders, you appear to be out of luck

in that case try to do a factory reset

and either attempt to "Repair" your phone via PC Companion,

or flash firmware via XperiFirm and Flashtool (no UNLOCKED bootloader required, right ?)

Bad signal nearly all the time (orange/red on mobile network signal)

The battery is varying almost too much for my taste... However I have found one of the sources for the problem - Spotify is a huge battery drain, dropping almost 3% every minute and heats up the phone to the point of no touching...
