Just got the stock recovery now. I dont know exactly how it happened but i just downloaded the OTA file zip on my External sdcard and inserted it on sdcard slot then an update notification popped up on my phone saying an update on sdcard card is available then it installed right away on TWRP upon reboot and it flashed the stock recovery back in.

so you are on stock firmware, but got TWRP recovery? you put it on sdcard and insert it and just pop up that you need to update? can you possibly extract the stock recovery? thanks

can you explain step by step please ?

For Relock bootloader :
adb and fastboot by computer:

" fastboot oem reset-dev_info "

if it's command not work : " fastboot oem force-reset " but this command can soft brick your device and if you have twrp recovery i do not recommand this command because i have test with stock official recovery

(for me after this command enter my bootloader is relocked but the adb and fastboot won't work after and i have a warning corrupt system in red and this warning say : your system is corrupt your system will not boot and your system shutdown in 30 sec i have recovert my firmware when i upgrade my system )

For Flash Firmware by stock recovery :

i go on asus support web site and i download latest firmware ( for me WW , SKU ) Firmware V15.0617.1804.82

put the zip file on your external sd card boot into stock recovery upgrade by sd card select the firmware zip file and wait

Is it possible for me to flash an older firmware version? If so, how?

I don't Know if you can downgrade your device with an older version if you watch the Asus support you can read thé downgrade is not possible and i haven't try ....

When i try to repair my device with my first firmware i have flash failure but when i try with new firmware it work perhaps the same firmware work

Just wandering how you got the stock recovery, by flashing the stock firmware? Using TWRP or ADB? Thanks

Stock recovery.img. -----> page 5

I haven't flash TWRP because the device is to young for now and need tester ... I have stay on stock recovery and if you watch the first post i never flash TWRP and i give one method just for booting on TWRP not for installation.

You can flash the stock recovery by TWRP : install choose install IMG file

You can flash by adb and fastboot :
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

I wanted to downgrade to an older firmware because the volume thru headhone jack sucks. It doesn't get as loud as in previous firmwares.

Oh ok just for that

This Device is to young and you can try to downgrade by the stock recovery if you want ( if the firmware flash failure in stock recovery the installation is aborded and you stay on your actual firmware normaly

I can confirm the procedure from OP.

I only took an additional twist:
* I booted to fastboot (adb reboot bootloader)
* Booted TWRP recovery (fastboot boot twrp.img) - I skipped unlocking as I had no code
* uploaded magisk image (adb push magisk.zip /sdcard)
* flashed magisk

*root*

Thanks for the guide.

What do you mean? This procedure doesn't install any custom ROMs. You're still on stock after it. I left everything but my bootloader & boot intact.
Thanks dude... I know. I've sent you a pm. I need support from someone, who has a rooted zen5 and still on stock ROM  it's for a development I'm doing with some other guys, but we don't have an Asus zen5.

    Great tutorial.
I do have a couple of questions. Is it possible to get ride of the warning logo after having unlocked the bootloader? and is it possible to re-lock the bootloader?

    fastboot oem reset-dev_info

This is the reply I received from ASUS:
Here is the bootloader http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Ze...71.1602527222.1525803528-691235045.1507666740 for the ZenFone 5 (ZE620KL)

I am not able to locate one for the zenfone 5z (zs620kl).

    1. Update your software image to V15.0616.1803.8_M3.5.11.16 or latest version
    2. Before you download, install, and use the Unlock Device App you acknowledge and assume complete risk to the quality and performance of this App, including but not limited to the following: once you activate the App you will not be able to recover your ASUS product (“Original Product”) back to original locked conditions; the Original Product with the activated App will not be deemed the Original Product; the Revised Product will no longer be covered under the warranty of the Original Product; the software of Revised Product will no longer be deemed the software of the Original Product and can no longer receive ASUS software updates; your purchased digital content may also be affected.

Anyone with solid info on whether this can safely be done AFTER rooting?

If so, does root stay after re-locking the bootloader?

Before relocking bootloader make sure you un-root, root will not be retain if you locked your bootloader, then follow this link--- to flash STOCK OS-[DOWNGRADE][ZE620KL] Firmware Downgrade for ZenFone 5 (2018):By Saktis.

after booting, click debugging and reboot bootloader and then do--- fastboot oem force-reset.

It will prompt you to put your password, just power off and press down button and screen will pop up says erasing, after that, your back to stock FIRMWARE, no root and bootloader locked.

    Hope this helps:good:

actually I just tried to relock my device with the line you provided me. Fastboot accepts the command, however the bootloader is still unlocked when I checked his status, and the warning logo still there.
    Any idea?

    That's wired .. try 'fastboot oem force-reset' instead ?
    What's your ROM version ?
