Again with this "just re-lock your bootloader" solution... What if you don't want to do so? (i.e. you want to keep a custom ROM/kernel?)

If you want to enjoy custom ROM then you have to unlock your bootloader,without unlocking bootloader you can't install custom ROM...but in some cases, if after unlocking bootloader you get screen freeze issue or camera problem then you should relock your bootloader again.

You need to do trial & error Asus has messed up by shipping different phones . The method posted by op is for his device so there are minimum chances that you will also get the same result as the OP .

Yes, i have Play Store license, so i see all devices by asus and i can confirm, there are 6+ diferent models with name "Zenfone 5".. So sad..

Yes. Asus creates this main confusion and now many users are facing these confusion. Same name with different different specifications.

Nope bro. I don't remember the IFWI version number.
As your phone is same like mine. You can try this method. It works for me perfectly.

You can found your Ifwy in bootloader ifwy is diferent after unlock and there is diferent ifwy when phone came from factory, after relock is ifwy diferent then if is your phone unlocked and diferent when is your phone before first unlock..

After unlocking bootloader,
now my IFWI version is : 59.A1

I don't remember the IFWI version number when my device came out from factory i.e; before unlocking bootloader.

Bro! Nice thread, structurally neat and easy to understand. But...

Can you please edit or add the details about 'if' after bootloader unlocking, malfunctioning camera or phone freezes show up, it means your Zen 5 is totally unlockable. It's common knowledge here that if you got issues in bootloader unlocking, it means your Zen 5 has different shipment parts inside it that makes bootloader unlocking impossible (why don't you try to take a look for yourself, dive deeper into XDA's Zen 5 forums about bootloader unlocking) and suggest them to use stock rom or stock kernel.

Your bootloader unlocking thread isn't something new in Zenfone 5's XDA forums. No hard feelings, bro. It's just I don't want to see you give false hope to people who have different shipped Zen 5's that are totally doomed in bootloader unlocking. Even though I don't use Zen 5 as my daily driver anymore, even 'til this day it still pains me to see my poor little baby zen 5 trapped in this situation where total kernel/system level customization is impossible to do.

PS: Don't get me wrong, you're doing a great job! Kudos bro!

*Edited because now we have another solution for freezing bootloaders (referring to @nheolinkin's guide).

hey thanks for this tool. yesterday i used it on my T00J and unlocked. after unlock i try the camera and a little other things i seemed ok, camera didnt freeze. after unlock installed lineageOS and i got random screen freezes. today i tried resurrection remix 5.8 and it seemed okay for 2-3 hours of heavy use but after that i got first screen freeze in resurrection.

can i relock phone with the custom roms ? is it going to solve my problem ? thanks.

So you have screen freeze issue after unlocking bootloader .
You cannot lock bootloader while using custom rom that uses custom kernel .. if you do so your phone won't boot.
Now you can stay with your screen freeze issue and have custom rom or lock the bootloader and get back to stock rom or any custom rom that uses stock kernel .
