Introduction:
These are the various Gapps packages for android.

As you should know: Gapps cannot be bundled with any source-built rom, they can only be included if you're building off of a stock rom for that device.
These are the various apks used by gapps, and optional apps that cannot be downloaded from the market.
Requirements:
  1. A custom recovery:
    • Clockwork Mod 6.0 (or newer)
    • Team Win Recovery Project 2.2 (or newer)
Install instructions:
  1. Download desired zip(s)
  2. Copy update zip to SD card
  3. Reboot into custom recovery mod
  4. Select "update from update.zip"
  5. Navigate to update zip
  6. Flash
  7. Finished
Download List:
Notice:
  • You MUST flash the matching Gapps for your android version, flashing the wrong one will lead to unpredictable results
  • All packages are the newest available to me, they will always be newer then the ones provided on goo.im
  • The Optional packages contain apps that are not available on the market, but are otherwise not required for Gapps functionality
Changelog:
  • Dec 16 2012: Fixed permission files in JB, moved GoogleQuickSearchBox/Velvet to Opt packages
  • Dec 11 2012: Added Gmail to HC Opt package
  • Dec 5 2012: Updated all packages
  • Jul 21 2012: Updated instructions
  • Jul 12 2012: Split packages into required and optional, added Carhome/GB, GenieWidget/GB, Talk/GB, removed GalleryGoogle/ICS
  • Jul 10 2012: Initial release of ICS version, GB updated to market 3.7.13

Finally made a new test version very much after the fact:

Notice:
This one is a test version, it is a unified zip for all dell devices.
It REQUIRES CWM 6.0+ or TWRP 2.2+ (for the S7/S10) to install.
It is not compatable with streakmod. (for the S5)

As a bonus, I made it so it includes the permissions file so anyone using that can also use the Dell Stage 1.7 widgets from the market if they wish.
The widgets themselves are not actually bundled, download them off the market if you want, otherwise you dont need to do anything.

update-Gapps-ICS-20907-b1.zip

Contents:
  • Gapps: 4.0.4-422743
  • Market: 3.8.17
  • Supports neon and non-neon devices now (ie S7/S10)
  • missing text2speech voices from previous versions

Things I'm still missing (ie they're very out of date)
  • MarketUpdater
  • OneTimeInitialzer 4.0.4-338691
  • com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar

If nothing is broken (due to Gapps), I will finish preparing Gapps Opt/ICS.
I've been able to seperate better (I think) the optional files from the required ones.
I finally got it straight thx.

They're half a year newer, and are unmodified.
The goo.im ones are deodexed repacks, these are straight out of donor roms.

The latter part doesnt actually affect anything, it's just because I'm OCD on liking my apks unmodified whenever possible (and reasonable)

Gtalk isnt included, it's normally included in the gapps-optional package.
Reason I havnt included in this release is that there's 2 varients, tegra2 and everything else.

I'll likely finish up the optional package and release that next week.

I'll be updating gapps for 2.3/3.2/4.0 (and mabye 4.1) soon.

I havnt been getting much in the way of feedback, if I did I would likely be more consistant in my updating of this.

What kind of feedback were you looking for? I've been using your Gapps package on giveen's CM9/10 builds.

Updated OP, unified all gapps into a single post.

Released updated Gapps for 2.3/3.2/4.0/4.1

Edit: moved old post to repurpose post #2

Thanks for the packages. Very useful to have them all organized and details regarding what's inside each package.

1 request.... and totally greedy on my part
Would you consider creating inverted gapps packages? The inverted apps use less battery... perhaps slightly but still better non the less. Also, from an aesthetic standpoint, darker images and backgrounds blend well with ICS and up

Sorry, but that's the oppisite of my long term strategy: My endgame is to have unmodified and verified good files for everything.

you can simply overwrite the original ones if you wish, and it'll flash your modified version

What color is the invert one? from my understanding: white is good for lcds and black is good for oleds.

I always have a black inverted setup on my devices. No worries mate, I understand there are gapps packages around I can flash on top if/when need be to satisfy my liking for appearance. As I said, greedy request. But I like the close to official as possible approach and if I get a package with modified apk's that proves to play nice... I will share my findings. One I am thinking of off the top of my head is called JusTun Bean (JB inverted apps) which comes as a quick flash .zip or in an aroma installer. They've worked across all my devices pretty well. A quick search in xda will show links.

I apologize if my statement about battery life being improved may not be accurate, I kind of just assumed it was better for one screen type... it was better for all. My bad:p

Thanks again for the packages

I cant actually confirm my statements, but from what I know:

oleds generate light, so less light = less power
lcds have a backlight, and they block light, so less blocking = less power

Just like I said though, there's nothing keeping you from simply replacing the files in the zips with your own customized versions.
You can even redistribute them if you have permission from the original modder.
(if you do though, keep it in the apps subforum as it falls under theme modding)

Updated HC-Opt: added gmail, gmail isnt available on the market for HC, and only HC

Edit: It turns out that some of the apks are marked as backwards compatable to previous versions of android.
If there are any volunteers on 4.0/CM9 willing to test: i'm going to make experimental versions that use apks from 4.1 that are marked as being able to run on 4.0.
(some of them from stock 4.2 are even marked compatable as far back as 2.2, but i only need 4.0 testers as I dont have any live devices with it)

Needless to say, the ones made for 4.1 are newer, and it would simplify the update zips (not to mention it might have more features)

Did initial test on running apks on earlier versions of android: they dont work, it's likely the manifests are not tagged correctly.

Any future versions for 3.2/4.x will move gSearch/gNow/gVoiceSearch into the optional bundle, as they're not really required components.

You are still recommended to install them though if you do use them: gSearch/gNow/gVoiceSearch need to be placed into /system/app to integrate into the stock launcher (ie the special search bar widget) to function.
Simply installing it from market will allow it to work, but it wont tie into the stock launcher.

There might be a new ICS gApps version soon, depending on how things pan out

GoogleEars (google sound search) is apparently available on the market.
Future versions of gapps will remove it as it is already available on the market.

Edit: I will also be examining GoogleTTS closer, it seems that the language synthesis data can be downloaded from within the app. If this is the case, I will remove the langauge data and the user can simply download whichever one desired. There is also the fact this would remove the necessity of making sure you have the latest language data (though I do not expect that it changes that frequently)
