Trying to find a way to start tasker timer after turning on do not disturb. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The easiest way to do that would be to have tasker turn on DND, then just run the "timer".

More battery friendly to calculate the time the timer would expire then set a variable to that time. Use the variable in a time based profile.

Doesn't the built in DND scheduling on your device work?

DND works, trying to set up a way to launch DND and have it turn off with a timer in one step.

I just realized you posted this exact thing just a few posts down. It's really straight forward. Create a task to turn on DND then start the timer. In the other post I linked a more battery friendly way to do timers.

If you are unable to get it to work, post the description of your task that isn't working. There is a sticky post in this forum with instructions on how to post your task description.
