WiFi Problem:

Some versions of this phone are cursed with the "driver is not loaded*" error while trying to use the WiFi.

  • Some people reported that doing a hard-reset solved their problem.
  • The cause and solution for this is still unknown.

Software "view" of this problem: On a broken WiFi phone the radio stack wasn't corrupted, all the files and registry seamed to be correct.

Hardware "view" of this problem: Swapping parts between a phone with working WiFi and one with broken WiFi, the problem was isolated to the circuit behind the d-pad wheel where the screen is attached to.

  On the working WiFi phone:
  • The writting on the antenna reads: the manufactured date and the word PHOEBUS
  • The stamp on the microSD slot reads GUKE
  On the broken WiFi phone:
  • The writting on the antenna reads: a version code and the word PHOEBUS
  • The stamp on the microSD slot reads GTIE

Software Updates (ROM):

On Feb-06-2008 T-mobile released an software updated for the T-mobile Shadow. The update can be downloaded from http://www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade/

"The new software allows users to send "audio postcards", which are essentially MMS messages with short audio notes attached, to any of your 5 MyFaves contacts. A number of functional improvements and bug fixes have been made as well. These include the ability to hang up calls when shutting the slider mechanism, a fix for the "multiple alarm issue" that has plagued WM devices for years, new camera themes, new ringtones/wallpapers/graphics, and the ability to display the camera application in portrait mode."
