Internal Forum

The HTC Rezound was announced on November 3, 2011 and released on November 14 2011.

The HTC Rezound is viewed by many as a very under-rated but powerful phone. The phone has some important downfalls including lack of advertising by both Verizon and HTC, lack of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, and relatively poor battery life. However, it's comparable in specs to a Galaxy Nexus or DROID RAZR MAXX. Even today it is still an extremely capable phone thanks to it's 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon S3 CPU. Development for the Rezound started even before HTC's official boot loader unlock solution. Devs found a temp-root exploit and created scripts to remove bloat, remove parts of HTC's Sense skin, and improve overall performance. Shortly after, HTC added the Rezound to the HTCDev bootloader unlock tool, allowing a custom recovery to be installed thus providing a way to install Superuser and flash custom ROMs. Development boomed and users had plenty of ROMs to flash thanks to some key developers.

Early-mid 2012 a process to achieve S-OFF was released named "JuopunutBear". This tool achieves S-OFF on most 2011 HTC phones, and is available as a command line application for Linux and Windows. A Mac OS X version is not planned. This process requires an official bootloader unlock, as well as root. Users must perform a "wire trick", which involves shorting out certain contacts on the back of the phone at specific boot times to allow the program to work. With the S-OFF process completed, users can flash kernels in recovery, radio images, splash images, as well as downgrade the firmware if necessary.

The official Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update originally slated for "early 2012", then pushed back to "June-July," didn't arrive until early August. Now, the Rezound has an almost fully functional CyanogenMod 9 available thanks to the dedication of some amazing developers. Development continues to push toward a hopeful future of CyanogenMod 10, or another version of Android 4.1 (JellyBean).

Root is possible in all ROMs on the Rezound. It can be achieved via HTCDev Unlock.

S-OFF is possible on all ROMs on the Rezound. It can be achieved by the Juopunutbear S-OFF method (Linux only) on Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich firmware with a stock, rooted ROM, or by rumrunner S-OFF using the "HTC Universal" method for Windows or Linux on ICS firmware only and with an unsecure kernel with or without a custom ROM.
