The Samsung Galaxy 3, also known as the Samsung Galaxy Apollo is a smartphone manufactured by Samsung that runs the open source Android operating system. Announced and released by Samsung in July 2010 as the small brother of Samsung Galaxy S. The Galaxy 3 succeeds the Galaxy Spica.

The Samsung Galaxy 3 won bronze of the CNET Asia Reader's Choice Award for Best Entry-Level Smartphone in 2010


The Samsung Galaxy 3/Apollo comes with Android 2.1 (Eclair) preloaded and was later offered firmware upgrades to 2.2(Froyo). The phone's firmware can be upgraded via Samsung's PC app, Samsung Kies. The device is unfortunately not in samsung's further upgrade plans.

Still XDA Members have ported CM7, CM9 and even CM10 to this device.

Another team of developers is working towards Porting the latest Linux kernel to this device. It is based on the latest linux kernel v3.4. This could ensure that any future Android version can be made to run on this device.
